Make Your Own Non-Toxic Oven Clay

OvenBake Clay

  • 2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 cup real salt
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 3/4 – 1 cup water
  • food coloring (optional)
  • water based acrylic paints (optional)
  • toothpicks and/or other objects for poking/writing/stamping etc. (optional)
  • ribbon for hanging (optional)

  1. Mix together the flour and salt.
  2. Add the oil, and then slowly add the water until you reach a nice clay consistency that you like. If you want the clay colored, this is the time to add the food coloring! Also, don’t forget to make a hole, before baking, where you can string a ribbon through to hang your creation.
  3. Mold into whatever shapes that you want. If using egg yolk brush it on now.
  4. Pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees.
  5. Bake creations in the oven for 1 hour. Times can vary depending on the thickness of your creation. Don’t forget projects that are too thick may crack while baking!
  6. Let cool before painting with water based acrylics!
